We’ve got a wide range of events in the diary here at Castleton. From magical moments to cherry-licious farm tours, braiding to berries, there is something for everyone.
If you’re all about the fruit, we have four fabulous farm tours for you to choose from this summer. And that’s as well as our special events to keep the children entertained.
Fabulous fruit
From jam making to cherry choices, our farm tours are led by Castleton story teller Norma Lyall. Her emphasis is always on making it a feast for all the senses. You get to:
- SEE our fruit journey, from plant to punnet
- HEAR the bees who pollinate our plants
- TASTE the freshest of berries
- SMELL the aroma of summer
- FEEL the soil under your shoes
Find out about the farm
Our classic storytelling tour lets you enjoy a fun-filled, fact-packed tour to learn how berries get from plant to plate, and discover the story of our fruit farm.
You can read all about our fabulous fruit here, but it is so much more fun to do it in real life.
The family tour is ideal for primary-aged children who are curious about where their food comes from.
If you have a taste for the particularly fine Castleton cherry, the cherry tour is for you. Norma guides you through our cherry orchard to meet expert Adrian, our Lead Cherry Grower, and of course you will have a chance to pick your own to take home.
And if you want to be able to hone your fruit preserving skills, there are two jam making tours.
This is an opportunity to pick your own berries and then preserve them into a delicious jam alongside our team. It could be strawberries or raspberries, depending on what’s available, and Norma will guide you to our Jam Cabin. There, Paulina from our Preserve Team will help you to make your own jam to take home and enjoy.
Summer holiday entertainment
And if you’re looking for something to keep the younger members of the family entertained as part of a great day out, look no further than our entertainment events.
Summer holidays are the time for trying something different so why not book a slot to have your hair braided.
Local business Box N Braid can give you a hair makeover in as little as 15 minutes. It’s a great way to keep the kids still while you enjoy a cuppa and cake.
Magician Allan Cadabra has been one of Scotland’s premier children’s entertainers since he turned professional in 2004. He has performed all over Scotland entertaining and educating children with his hugely successful educational shows and we are delighted to welcome Allan here at Castleton.
Suitable for all ages, his show will engage the kids throughout, whilst giving them plenty to think about for the rest of the day.
And here’s one that isn’t for the faint hearted. The Critter Keeper lets you get up close and personal and learn about a whole range of different “critters”.
Educational and fun – for those who dare to come along for the morning – the show starts at 10am and lasts for an hour.
