We are celebrating a prestigious win after our newly launched hemp oil mayonnaise was awarded a coveted Great Taste Award by the Guild of Fine Food.
First unveiled at this year’s Taste of Grampian at the start of June, the mayonnaise stands out for its unique blend of Scottish rapeseed oil and hemp oil, creating a versatile ingredient with a distinctive local flavour.
The Great Taste judges admired the mayonnaise’s “herbaceous flavour profile and delicious creamy taste” describing it as “smooth and silky”.
Anna Mitchell, co-owner of Castleton Farm, expressed her delight at the award: “We are thrilled to receive this prestigious recognition for our hemp oil mayonnaise.
“It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the exceptional quality of our ingredients.

Hemp oil is renowned for its nutritional benefits, including a perfect balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, making it a heart-healthy choice. The mayonnaise is also packed with essential amino acids and is both vegetarian and gluten-free.
Beyond its nutritional value, hemp is an environmentally friendly crop. Grown on Castleton Farm by owners Ross and Anna Mitchell, hemp is carbon-negative, meaning it absorbs more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits during its production and transportation.

This year’s Great Taste Awards saw a record-breaking number of entries, with nearly 3,500 companies from 115 countries submitting over 13,000 products for evaluation. Each product underwent rigorous blind tasting by a panel of over 500 food experts, including chefs, buyers, and retailers.
