Vision & values
What sets us apart is our blend of innovation and tradition
Family and food
By working together, and looking after each other, we know we will achieve more.
We believe in doing things properly, and not cutting corners. And it is in taking care and paying attention to detail that the quality of Scottish food can shine through.
Innovation and tradition
“The tradition and heritage behind Castleton Farm underpins our respect for the environment. But it is dynamic thinking that will help us achieve our sustainability goals”
What sets us apart is our blend of innovation and tradition.
We believe in seeing the bigger picture, in being one step ahead and continually trying new things. Even if they fail.
From diversifying into new crops, to trying out new products and different markets, it is our adaptability, innovation and ideas that will see us succeed.
We aim to farm profitably, but in an ethical and environmentally sustainable way.
Our sustainability agenda takes the best of traditional agricultural practices and merges them with the technological advances that will help us do our part to minimise our impact on the environment.
And we are committed to regenerative farming. Changing the way we farm help us change to more sustainable food and farming systems that nourish the health of both people and the planet.
1. Lowering our carbon footprint by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions
Through a network of biomass boilers and solar systems, we produce more electricity than we use. However as our demand for power fluctuates through the day and we don’t currently have the infrastructure to store it, we export electricity during the night, and import it during the day.
Also by producing fruit for nine months of the year, we reduce the need for imported fruit, cutting down on carbon-intensive food miles.
2. Employing regenerative farming
An approach centred on improving and revitalising soil health. find out more
3. Reducing our use of single-use plastic
The biggest use of plastic is in the packaging for the fruit. Our ethos is that nothing should be single use. The current plastic fruit punnets used by Castleton Farm contain a minimum of 80% recycled plastic material and are 100% recyclable.
